How to Become a Christian

  1. God loves YOU!

God is real! Just look at this beautiful world that He created for you to enjoy. From the starry skies to the sandy beaches on the beautiful gulf shores, God has declared His glory to us through His awesome creative power! He made all of these things for us because He loves us and wants us to know and love Him.

Some people look at the bad things in the world and blame God. But God also hates the bad things that people do and bad things that happen even more than we do. The reason for all the bad stuff is called SIN. Sin is anything that people do that is against His perfect will. God tells us what is right and what is wrong in the Bible. All sin started when the first man and woman that He created chose to disobey His commandment. Like a disease, sin and death spread to everyone and everything in God’s creation. The Bible says that we are all separated from God because of our sin.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23
  1. God has a wonderful plan and purpose for YOUR LIFE!

Because God loves us, He hasn’t abandoned or given up on you. He sent Jesus Christ His eternal Son. He was 100% God and became at the same time 100% man like us. Because He is God, He had no sin and because He was man, He could die in our place and for our sins on the cross.

For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Romans 5:8
  1. God has provided new life and eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ!

How can we begin a relationship with God while we are still sinners? Most think that the way to be right with God is by doing good and right things but this will never work. Just one sin is enough to send us to hell and we can never be good enough to earn God’s favor or forgiveness. This idea is not only wrong but it is prideful and insulting to Jesus great sacrifice.

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 1For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:8-10

This tells us that we can’t be saved by having good works but that we are saved if we receive Jesus great work on the cross when He paid for all our sins. Jesus took all of the worlds sin upon Himself and He paid the price of death so we wouldn’t have to.

So, how do I receive new and eternal life from God? It’s so amazing and yet God has made it so simple.

A – We must Admit that we are a sinner. We have all sinned against God’s perfect commands and ways.

B – We must Believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and that He died to pay for our sins and that He rose from the dead on the third day and He alone can save us.

C – We must Commit our lives to Him to live totally for God. We must turn from our sins and living for ourselves and make Him our Savior and Lord.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Romans 10:9-10

If you want to begin an exciting and eternal life with God all you have to do is receive what Jesus has already done for you. You can receive it right now! You can pray something like this in your own words;

God I am a sinner and I believe that You love me and sent Jesus to die on the cross to save me and give me new and eternal life. Right now, I want to turn from my sins and living for myself and commit my life to You. Come into my life, forgive me of my sin and help me to live for YOU. Thank You Jesus. Amen.

11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

1 John 5:11-13
